|Occupation||Vice chairman of Nasdaq and co-author Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002|
Michael G. Oxley is a partner at the law firm of Baker Hostetler LLP in Washington D.C. He is also a lobbyist for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) to promote self-regulation of investment advisers.
Oxley was appointed as non-executive vice chairman of the Nasdaq Stock Market on March 15, 2007. In his position at the Nasdaq, Oxley worked with public company chief executives and board members on Nasdaq's behalf and oversaw outreach to Nasdaq-listed companies on public policy issues. He was also an advisor to Nasdaq president and chief executive officer Bob Greifeld and the Nasdaq board of directors.
Oxley joined Nasdaq after a 34-year career in public life, including 25 years of distinguished service in the U.S. Congress and as former chairman of The House Financial Services Committee.
In January of 2001, Oxley was chosen by the House leadership to chair the Financial Services Committee. Building on the previous Banking Committee, the panel consolidated jurisdiction to address the areas of banking, insurance, securities and exchanges, housing, and monetary policy. Among the panel's many legislative achievements under Oxley's chairmanship are the Sarbanes-Oxley Act to respond to the era of corporate corruption (passed in 2002 in the aftermath of scandals at companies including Enron and Worldcom), the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act to resolve the post-9/11 insurance crisis, the anti-money laundering provisions of the USA PATRIOT Act to help track terrorist financing, and the FACT Act that brought consumers the free annual credit report. He's also served as a Special Agent of the FBI, and a member of the Ohio General Assembly.
Oxley graduated from Miami University in 1966, and the school created the Michael G. Oxley Fund as the primary source of funding for the Farmer School of Business.
