Daniel Yergin is an authority on energy, international politics and economics and a recipient of the United States Energy Award for “lifelong achievements in energy and the promotion of international understanding.” He is an author and a business leader, as chairman of consulting and research firm Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA). He is also executive vice president of IHS, the parent company of CERA. He serves as CNBC’s global energy expert.
Yergin received the Pulitzer Prize for his work The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money and Power, which became a number one best seller and was made into an eight-hour PBS/BBC series seen by 20 million people in the United States. The book has been translated into 12 languages.
Yergin has been named one of the 500 most influential people in the United States in the field of foreign policy by the World Affairs Councils of America. He is a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Center for Globalization at Yale University, a Trustee of the Brookings Institution, and on the Board of the New America Foundation, a Director of the US-Russia Business Council and on the Advisory Board of the International Institute for Economics.
He chaired the US Department of Energy’s Task Force on Strategic Energy Research and Development. He is a member of the Board of the United States Energy Association, and a member of the US National Petroleum Council. He recently served as Vice Chair of the new National Petroleum Council study, Facing the Hard Truths about Energy. He also has become the only foreign member of the Russian Academy of Oil and Gas. He is one of the “Wise Men” of the International Gas Union.
Yergin holds a BA from Yale University and a PhD from Cambridge University, where he was a Marshall Scholar.
